There are two truths about doing dumb stuff in public: One, somebody will get it on video, and two, that video will be objectively terrible. Once everybody got a video camera in their pocket, it made these truths self-evident. If, for example, you spin off into a crowd of spectators while leaving a car meet (we’re looking at you, Mustang owners…) a shaky vertical video that cuts off just before the most interesting part will be up on YouTube/WorldStar/LiveLeak literally as quickly as the local LTE network will allow.
How refreshing, then, is it to see something really dumb captured in crystal-clear 1080P with prosumer grade equipment? In this YouTube clip from ManCaveTV, we see sideshow antics in Compton gone wrong, with a C6 Corvette doing donuts at the intersection of W131st and South Broadway.
One spectator, after apparently lighting a road flare and tossing it into the middle of the street, doesn’t realize he’s in the path of the sliding Chevy until it’s too late. He goes up and over instead of under, fortunately, and after doing a full 360 degree ragdoll flip in midair, lands without apparently sustaining lasting injury.
Like we said, though, what makes this a standout video is the fact it was shot with a DJI Inspire 1 drone, with a price tag of almost $2,900. Per the comments on the video, “Man I was over a block away and wasn’t even watching my monitor…. a few minutes after the fact people started asking me if I recorded it and when I got home I checked my footage and bam!…. I had it!”
I, for one, welcome our new drone overlords, and look forward to the increased quality they will bring to the publicly-shared video record of humanity’s dumbest moments.
