Personally, we love dirt-under-your-nails, hardcore DIY performance stuff. Porting cylinder heads might be one of those jobs that many folks will farm out to an experienced pro, but there will all ways be a small contingent of enthusiasts ready and willing to bust out the grinder in search of more power. It’s certainly not a job for everyone, but if you’re the type of guy who might have a little more time than you do money, or maybe you just like to do all your own work, then check out this series of DIY LS cylinder head porting videos on YouTube, by user “AGearHead4Life”.

In total he has posted nine videos on at-home LS head porting, showing steps ranging from shaping the valve guide bosses to blending. This particular video is part 4, all about porting the Short Turn Radius in the floor of the intake ports. This area has a small hump that acts as a speed-bump, and can really slow down your intake charge’s velocity, but it’s important to know exactly where you need to grind.

Pictures help when it comes to this type of work, but a video makes explaining specifically what needs done to each area of the ports that much easier to understand. Our hats are off to Mr. Gear Head for taking the time to film and post these videos as a resource for all the LS DIYers out there.     

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million when explaining this type of detail-sensitive work.
