In the wonderful, wide world of vehicle modification, it’s obvious that pickup trucks are amongst the most popular vehicles to customize.
We’ve seen plenty of pickups set up for drag racing, some for autocross, and some with high horsepower setups just for daily driving. However, when we were rummaging through 1320Video’s YouTube channel, we came across this awesome GMC Sonoma fitted with a healthy, turbocharged LS1 engine. The turbo setup is really unique and it’s something we definitely haven’t seen before – mounted in the truck bed, coupled directly to an air-to-air intercooler.
Yeah, that’s right, in the truck bed, out in the open, but why? Well, according to the owner, he drives it daily and needs room for the A/C and power steering units. But he also wanted to disperse the weight to the rear of the truck for traction reasons, however, he’s never made a dragstrip pass with it before. The engine has a Vengeance Racing camshaft, upgraded fuel rails, a big Precision Turbo, and possibly some internal components to help the engine cope with boost.
If you’re wondering how the intercooler gets air fed to it, there is a duct so air from under the truck is forced through it. Pretty neat if you ask us. The truck looks significantly meaner with the Syclone bumper on there and also with the louvered tailgate.
We hope there’s more video of this truck coming from 1320Video in the future because we want to see it make some passes. Props to the owner, though, for being unique with his turbo placement!
