Video: How To Take 5 Seconds Off Your Chevelle’s Autocross Time

If you truly want to see what your ride is capable of, you need to take it through an Autocross course. Although it might seem easy, trust us when we say that those orange cones will reveal all of the faults your ride has. It’s very easy to spot the cars with to much body roll and awful handling characteristics. It’s a very easy problem to have also, especially if you drive an older model like Dustin Bernacki’s ’68 Chevelle.

These extremely heavy cars and their older suspension technology just weren’t designed to take a corner and limit issues like body roll. They weren’t designed to turn, they were designed to go straight. Which they accomplished really well might we add!

Bernacki and his ’68 Chevelle won a online contest through RideTech and at the 2011 Holley LS Fest got to see his ride transform right before his eyes. His ’68 Chevelle with the stock suspension components, and driven by a independent third party tackled the AutoCross course. The ’68 Chevelle never looked like it was “in” the track, it would experience violent body roll, and would push wide through a lot of corners instead of hugging the inside line.

But help was on the way, Ridetech then converted the entire suspension components on Dustin’s ride by attaching Street Challenge Coil Over Systems. What’s even more impressive was the fact that over the course of an hour and 4o minutes they were able to pull the old suspension components and install the entire system. “Everything bolted up, lined up, and we didn’t have any fitment issues at all,” Said Bernacki.

“The front grip on this thing is insane now, before the body roll on the thing was so unmanageable,” Said driver Brian Finch. He’s not kidding, you take a look at the before and after video from inside and it’s a huge difference!

Needless to say after all the changes and everything to the car, the ’68 Chevelle knocked over 5 seconds off of its time and frankly the results speak for themselves with how much different the car is now.
