It has been a long, hard road for the Cadillac ATS, a car that in many ways heralds the future of not just Cadillac, but GM as a whole. We’ve seen the dedication of the Cadillac ATS engineers, we’ve seen it tried and tested on the Nurburgring, also known as the “Green Hell.” After earning a pedigree in performance over in Europe, the Cadillac ATS returned home to Detroit for its grand unveiling.
That is where this video comes in, as the Cadillac ATS is shown off to the world in full for the first time. GM’s Mark Reuss made no bones about it; the ATS is targeting the German luxury sedans, using their own tracks and technology against them.
For years the Germans have used the Nurburgring as a test track for cars of all types. As of late the track has taken on a new popularity as automakers run their cars through the Green Hell in a competition of technology and speed. Automakers like BMW and Mercedes have dominated the track times, but GM wanted to beat them at their own game.
The Cadillac ATS features a cutting edge 270 horsepower 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, magnetic ride control, and near perfect 50/50 weight distribution for cornering Nirvana. With a low curb weight and precision handling, the Cadillac ATS aimed from the start to bring down the BMW 3-Series in every measurable way. We’ll find out soon enough if they have. But it has been an amazing journey for this car, and on paper it sure as hell looks promising.
As an added bonus, we’ve included a sneak peek at the Cadillac ATS’s Superbowl Commercial, entitled simply “Green Hell.” We’ll let GM take it from here.
