There are certain combinations and builds that others want to copy due simply to how well they work. It’s monkey-see, monkey-do,and it’s just how things go in the racing world. Justin Kalwei’s 1994 Chevy Silverado truck is one of those builds, and for good reason, as his truck flat out flies.
Kalwei’s twin turbo pickup known as the “Red Dragon” has gone through several different iterations in it’s life, but one thing that’s for sure as that this single-digit animal isn’t something you want to line up against at the track or on the street.
The Red Dragon began life with just a V6 under the hood before Kalwei started the hot rodding process, where things escalated quickly. Soon, the standard six-banger was gone and replaced with an LSX-based V8. When that wasn’t enough for Kalwei, the next big upgrade was a turbo kit and all the trimmings to go with it. That addition of boost turned the Red Dragon into a true beast, pushing it deep into the 10-second zone and making it a local legend in the process.
Recently, Kalwei took his truck out to the Street Car Takeover festivities to make some hits at the track and pulls on the dyno. The guys over at 1320 Video caught Big Chief from Street Outlaws trying to guess the power the Red Dragon puts down, and coming very close to the mark on the 1,398 horsepower pull. Kalwei’s truck isn’t just a dyno queen, though, as it runs hard at the track, cranking off a series of 8.60 passes at over 160 mph. Check out the video of the Red Dragon making big dyno pulls and crazy-quick hits at the track.
