OK, we’re just going to say it; Top Gear USA has been on a slippery slope, fighting uphill since it’s inception a few years ago. Rightfully so – it has a lot to live up to thanks to the UK version having 11 years of experience and development of audience-building rapport over ours.
We’re not hating on Tanner Foust, Rutledge Wood, or Adam Ferrara – in fact, we think each of them have an immense level of talent. But you can’t argue the fact that the show has been under constant fire from critics all over the world. It’s just the truth.
However, one of the things you’ll never hear us complaining about is the amount of American cars that we get to see on the show every month. We’ve seen everything from Fieros to Buick wagons, to Corvette ZR1s on their program. We’ve even seen a a pickup truck or three.
But in a recent episode, they put a Lingenfelter-tuned Escalade up against a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and a Range Rover Sport, of all things. While we don’t want to spoil the result for you, we can only tell you that the Caddy did a decent enough job against the competition, despite the fact that it was clearly the largest, longest, and by far, the heaviest of the three – thanks largely in part to the fact that it was the extended-length ESV model.
