Looking for a formula to create a crazy wheel-standing, 10 second track beast, that could just as easily play the sleeper role? Well, in this video we recently came across on YouTube, it looks like these Aussies have the formula down pat; take an ‘80’s Mitsubishi Sigma, wedge our favorite powerplant between the fenders, and hang massive turbo on it for some insane power.

The Mitsubishi Sigma was originally built in Australia as Mitsubishi’s “upscale” 4-door, and while they only came from the factory with weak 4-cylinder engines, they were at least rear-wheel-drive. According to the video caption, these Aussies exploited the Sigma’s stock rear-wheel-drive platform by swapping in stock cube LS1, a Powerglide trans, and a beefy Ford 9-inch rear end, along with a Garret GT42 turbo to stuff a few PSI of atmosphere down the LS1’s throat.

Along with some pretty violent warm up burnouts, the video features the Sigma laying down an impressive string of runs deep into the 10’s at Heathcote Raceway, with the best run being a smokin’ 10.04 at 140 MPH (the caption, however, states that he managed to run a 9.8 at 140, so who knows?) This thing isn’t as subtle as the LS1 Toyota Cressida we brought you a few weeks ago, but the Sigma could still play the sleeper role pretty well. They would just have to throw on some hubcaps, a full exhaust, and a quiet blow-off valve and no one on the street would ever get wise to the kind of power this Sigma packs.
