The bar has now been raised, or lowered, for the title of “Worlds Fastest IRS Camaro.” The previous record was in the mid eights, but has now crossed the threshold into the sevens!
The historic pass took place at the recent Holley LS Fest, which is held in Bowling Green, KY at Beech Bend Raceway. Not only is this a great venue, the show is amazing and this video proves just that.
The first qualifying run the car ran 8.113 seconds at 170.6 mph. Backing that run up the American Racing Header/Farks Camaro ran a second qualifying run of 8.122 at 172.06 mph. The final run is where the stars aligned and they laid it all out. They squeaked into the sevens with a 7.998 second pass at 173.29 mph.
Just like all three passes, the Camaro does a minimal burnout, then lines up in the groove. He takes off, planting the rear tires and shooting down the lane like a bat out of hell. In the final run, he’s staged against a red hot third generation Camaro. The third gen launches hard, sending the nose high into the air before coming down hard, losing precious time.
The in car footage is really awesome to watch as well. He makes the trip down the strip look like a Sunday afternoon cruise, but this trip was all business. After staging the car, he flies down the track, shifting twice. After passing the finish line and pulling the chutes, he knows it was a great run and celebrates. Congrats to the whole team on setting the new mark! Thanks to Camaro5 for posting up the videos!
