Whether it’s the future racing prospects or the return of the iconic Chevy name, the official reveal of the 2014 SS has been long awaited by many Chevy enthusiasts. But it looks like the wait is finally over, well kind of.
While the SS is supposed to make its official racing debut at Daytona International Speedway this coming weekend, Chevy has uploaded an enticing video that digitally follows the car’s “transformation” from concept to race vehicle, and on to the road-going cruiser it will soon be. Check it out above.
In addition to the excitement that comes with the annual running of the Daytona 500, race fans and Chevy enthusiasts alike will get an extra treat at the event this year.
That’s because it is at the official start of the 2013 NASCAR season that Chevrolet will debut its 2014 SS, the first V8, rear-wheel-drive, performance sedan built by the company since 1996.
Powered by an LS3 V8 that creates about 415hp and 415lb-ft of torque, the new SS is set to fill the void Chevrolet has felt for 17 years in the rear-wheel-drive, V8-powered sedan market.
Backed by race-proven testing, the car features a 6-speed paddle-shift transmission, 3.27 rearend gears, and a sport-tuned chassis, making it perfect for the road or track.
It will also be one of the quickest sedans on the market with zero-to-60 time of about 5 seconds when it appears in showrooms in the third quarter of 2013.
While you’ll have to wait until the race on Sunday to see the 2014 Chevy SS in the flesh, along with its NASCAR sister lap the historic Daytona International Speedway, the video above will give you some idea of what to expect. What more could you ask for just in time for the car’s big race-day reveal?
