Will the 2012 Z/28 take design cues from the SCCA CTS-V?

When it comes to getting the dirt on the 2012 Z/28, Camaro5 is one of the web’s greatest sources. They’ve been on top of every breaking bit of Z/28 news from day one, and now members are making a compelling argument that the production Z/28  hood will most likely resemble the one found on the recently-unveiled CTS-V road race car.

According to Camaro5, there are some styling similarities between the SCCA Cadillac CTS-V racecar and the 2012 Z/28 Camaro. After closely examining the images of the CTS-V racecar from the North American International Auto Show and the previous spy photos of Z/28 mules, there are noticeable styling similarities between the two cars.

Looking at the spy shots, despite the manufacturer’s attempts to camouflage the front end of the car, it is easy to see the CTS-V inspired hood design. According to the discussions on the board, the most notable similarities are the aggressive design featuring vertical slats with a center bend rising out of the hood. The Camaro5 guys know their stuff and based their detailed description and photos, they are able to provide readers with a preview of the 2012 Z28.

After reading the forums some Camaro lovers are already chomping at the bit to swap out their existing hoods for the Z28 version. One potential benefit of this design is the heat dissipation. Of course the new design leads to more questions, like the reason behind the need for increased heat dissipation. The LSA-powered CTS-V and LS9-equipped ZR1 both get by without extractor-style hoods, so the question is whether the design has an engineering purpose or is merely a styling choice.
