The Nurburgring doesn’t care who you are or how good you claim to be; it’s just there to be driven on for good or ill. Depending on skill and track conditions, you’ll either be made a fool or a legend once you set rubber onto its hallowed asphalt grounds.
Today’s pick for WVW (Wrecked Vette Wednesday) obviously went into the latter category, although it wasn’t entirely his fault. Piloting his suped-up C6 around the Ring’s Nordschleife section last week, the driver (who kind of looks like /DRIVE’s Matt Farah) came barreling out of a left turn and into a right turn when he had to go off-track due to excessive exit speed.
He was taking part in the “CarFriday” event there, held every year on Good Friday leading into Easter Sunday. Per the video‘s description, “CarFriday is generally known as the unofficial season opener for the tourist drives at the Nurburgring, so every year there are thousands of spectators visiting the track to attend the tourist drives either as a spectator or driver. The enormous number of cars on track often leads to dangerous situations or to crashes like this one!”
The Corvette idles its way around the grassy inside section of the turn, unaware of the impending Renault Clio compact car that also miscalculated the section. Its rear is kicked out to the left, smacking the C6’s passenger front end and exploding fiberglass and plastic bits on both cars.
The damage looks to be pretty minimal, but we’ll bet neither party is looking forward to the hassle of insurance repairs. How would you react in this situation if you were the Corvette driver? Let us know in the comments below.
