To say that the C8 Corvette has had its share of the spotlight over the past year would be a huge understatement. Videos of the car under power have been floating to the top of Google searches since before GM would even admit that the car existed. Now, even though the black and white, Zora Easter-egg-laden camo has come off many months ago and many owners now have their own C8s, the car still enjoys copious views online and remains the darling for all seeking clicks.
Speed Phenom’s steed for this trip is his 2020 Corvette.
One of the more recent endeavors is by a young ‘Tuber called Speed Phenom. Unlike many who are still waiting for their C8, Mr. Phenom is currently enjoying his Corvette and shot some video of his drive to Laguna Seca and numerous trips around the track. In this video, he waves the brand’s battle flag and shares a few laps around the track where he catches a Viper ACR and proceeds to chew on the snake’s tail for a few rounds.
While Corvettes have done battle with Vipers on-track for years, the all-new mid-engine design brings an entirely new adversary to the slithering competitor. The C8 catches the Viper but doesn’t get around to the front where the fangs reside. Whether this is because of the car, the driver, or the track’s rules, we don’t know. The higher-horsepower Viper pulls away on the straights, but the C8 catches the snake on the turns. It makes for a few exhilarating laps before the Viper driver waves Mr. Phenom by.
The two cars did a dance for a few laps until they both catch up to slower traffic. At the end of the video, the Viper driver waves Mr. Phenom to pass.
Hearing that LT2 engine wind its way around the challenging track elevations is music to our ears. Much of the C8’s design was intended for situations such as this and many enthusiasts pine for the opportunity to try out the new car in such an environ. We’re truly envious of Mr. Phenom and his opportunity to enjoy his very own C8 on such a legendary track. Whether you are chomping at the bit, waiting for the day when YOUR baby gets delivered or you simply enjoy the sounds of a sweet-running V8 in the heat of battle, you’ll want to take a few minutes and give your speakers a tune-up. While it won’t replace the rush of sitting in one of these beasts, it’ll certainly give you goosebumps and maybe, hold you over until a more permanent cure can be found.
