A few weeks ago we brought you a story about LG Motorsports’ GMPP Body-In-White 5th Gen Camaro that they plan to build up and run in the World Challenge Series, but while that car is getting its final touches and tuning to hit the track, LG isn’t waiting to continue to test and develop parts for stock 5th Gens. The guys from LG took recently took out their test Camaro for a track session at the 2.5 mile track at the Eagles Canyon Raceway, near LG’s headquarters in North Central Texas, where they were able to gather some valuable info on how well the car handles and where its weak spots might be.
The 5th Gen is already equipped with a set of LG drop springs, sway bars, chassis brace and a better set of brake pads. For the most part, the Camaro was well poised and handled very well, proving to be pretty fast around Eagles Canyon. It wasn’t so much the suspension and handling that stood out to the guys from LG as it was the temperatures. They observed that even on a very mild spring day with a high temperature of only 80 degrees, the Camaro’s cooling system started to run a little hot. LG tells us that they plan to develop a line of coolers to help with this problem.
On the positive side of the temperature discussion, LG logged air intake temperatures of just 82 degrees using their full length, true-cold-air Velocity intake. That is just a two degree increase from the ambient air temperature despite the extreme under-hood temps on the track. Check out LG’s website for more info on the Velocity intake and all the other go-fast goodies that LG offers for your 5th Gen
