In a recent video, produced by Ford Racing about the building of the 2012 Cobra Jet drag cars, Jesse Kershaw, Ford Racing’s Drag Race Competition Manager, alluded to a similar, upcoming car from General Motors. This is the very first public reference to what has otherwise been a pretty well-kept secret at Bowtie Central.
Both Ford and Mopar have been building drag race-only versions of their pony cars for a while now. The Cobra Jet Mustang has had multiple runs of fifty cars sold out virtually as soon as the announcement was released. Mopar pulled out all the stops in their car by installing the Viper’s V10 engine for maximum mojo. The Mustang competition vehicle uses a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine.
This unconfirmed Camaro is likely to be one of the promised special editions intended to be announced in six month intervals. Whether or not it was the next one out of the gate remains open to speculation. Others have suggested that the car is likely to be introduced at this year’s SEMA Show, which will be in November, in Las Vegas.
You can check out Kershaw’s comments for yourself at the 1:10 time mark in the video below. As soon as we hear any more on this new development, we’ll make sure that you get it next.
