The current crown jewel in the GM engine lineup is the 638 horsepower LS9. Only available in one car, the Corvette ZR-1, this engine makes more horsepower and torque, by far, than any American production car engine. Even so, it is still based on a familiar formula to LSx enthusiasts, allowing it to be swapped into a surprising array of vehicles including a classic Pro-Touring Camaro, modern eight-second Camaro drag cars, the Hennessey Venom GT, and even the uber-expensive Spyker Aileron supercar.
So why has it taken someone so long to swap an LS9 into a pickup truck? It only makes sense if you ask us, and Fastlane Inc. has done just that.
Details are razor thin right now, though Fastlane is promising updates over at its Facebook page. They hope to have the truck at the track within the next couple of weeks, and they are aiming for mid-11’s. That shouldn’t be too difficult, despite the extra heft of these modern pickups. With 638 horsepower and 595 ft-lbs of torque, this truck will be a screamer, and that’s if they don’t do any more modifications. With a few tweaks, the LS9 is a proven 700 horsepower motor.
The only other details we know of right now are that the transmission will be an automatic (sorry stick shift guys.) Having witnessed Fastlane’s skill with the wrench though, we imagine that when this LS9-powered pickup is done, it will be an absolute beast that will crush the competition.
