We recently published a story about Texas Speed & Performance’s (TSP) world record pass with their fifth-gen Camaro at Houston Raceway Park. The TSP Camaro went a blistering 8.963-second elapsed time at 148.85 mph making it the first naturally aspirated stock bottom end LS3 in the eight-second range. But that wasn’t the whole story.

What we got to see in the initial video that was released was the Camaro do a burnout, stage, launch, and make a single pass. At the end of the video, you can see Seth Van Laningham, Head of Marketing for Texas Speed show us the time-slip. But now we’re seeing a little more of what happened that day.

Casey Rance of Mailordertuner was excited to get a couple of more passes with the car before the day was over. With a little more tweaking, he thought they could manage to take some more time off of their record-setting elapsed time. As the car came back around to the burnout box, it rolled through the water and proceeded to heat the tires. It turns out that the internet was not the only thing that Texas Speed & Performance broke with the 8-second pass that day.

During the burnout, the TSP Camaro suffered catastrophic engine failure. The Camaro’s engine came to an abrupt halt as it spit out the internals onto the race track. In the video, you can see pieces of the scattered engine which included a broken rod. If there were any doubt that this engine was a stock bottom end LS3, this video will prove otherwise.

With the engine scattered, the Texas Speed & Performance crew was done for the day. They did manage to accomplish their mission by being the first naturally-aspirated, stock bottom end LS3 to crack the 8-second barrier, though.
