According to Bowling Green Daily News, the tours are being shut down in order to give the factory a chance to complete extensive assembly line changes.

Although getting any future Corvette updates out of GM is like drawing blood from a stone, for anyone who’s paying attention, the news is confirmation of what we’ve speculated on for months.

As we reported at the beginning of the year, General Motors revealed it will invest $290 million in the plant to improve assembly technology, on top of an earlier $439 million investment slated for a new 450,000-square-foot paint shop that increases factory floor space by fifty percent.

Thats almost two-thirds of a billion dollars folks.

So the news that plant visitors with cameras will be barred from poking around the inside of the Corvette factory is hardy surprising. In fact, it’s another key clue that all this expansion and fuss is to accommodate building two models not one, and GM doesn’t want any details leaking out.

Lastly, we can extrapolate that we’ll see a mid-engine car debut in 18 months. The C7 ZR1 should come out of hiding this summer as it’s essentially a gussied up version of the already tooled up Z06.
