SEMA 2018: Ron Francis Wiring Shows Allison Customs 1966 Chevelle

SEMA is a celestial overload of sheetmetal madness, a kaleidoscope of gleaming metal flake, a car fiend’s crack house.

The twinkling lights, scantily clad babes, constant din of the crowd, and hundreds of the best builds on the planet, keep this extravaganza at full-boil all week long.

In a sea of cars, one Chevelle seemed to have a tractor beam feature, and sucked us into Ron Francis Wiring’s display in SEMA’s Central Hall at the Las Vega Convention Center in sunny Nevada.

The project belongs to Jeremy McLellan of Cambridge, ON, Canada, and was created by Allison Customs of Bloomfield, New Mexico. Our sister publication Chevy Hardcore, covered the car early in the build, but this was the first time we laid eyes on it as a finished entity.

Scott Bowers from Ron Francis Wiring gave Rod Authority a walk-around on the floor at 2018 SEMA and filled us in with some details. “The car is a 1966 Chevelle sprayed with House of Color’s  “Burnt Orange.” It’s running a supercharged LT4 Connect-and-Cruise from GM Performance backed up by a Tremec six-speed transmission. Of course, the car is wired with Ron Francis products.”

Allison Customs’ website elaborates more, “We started with a 1966 Chevelle that Jeremy McLellan bought – sight unseen – in North Carolina, and shipped it to us here in Bloomfield, NM. We worked-in dozens of modifications that he envisioned for this Chevelle.

On the exterior, we have shaved drip rails, shaved door handles, blacked out or deleted chrome, custom rear spoiler, and huge Boze 20 x 12 rear wheels with matching 19 x 9.5 inch wheels up front. It’s all riding on a custom frame and suspension package.

Moving inside, we created custom bucket seating, a dash with the newest technology in stereo and instrumentation, followed up by a center console running all the way through the car.”

We thought the transformation was incredible. This rusty old Chevelle was one step away from the junkyard, and is quite a testament to Jeremy’s vision and Allison’s killer craftsmanship.

It’s easy to dream in your head, but sometimes, it’s hard for that to translate into real time. With the advent of the Internet, an artist is just a click away.

Jeremy relied on a rendering of the car to flesh out his ideas. Over at the Pro-Touring forum, Jeremy commented, “I decided to get some professional renderings done by Eric Brockmeyer. Eric did an amazing job. It took about two months total, but I was in no hurry and the quality of work was amazing. He came up with some really trick ideas.”

Combine the magic of an artist, a skilled builder, and an abundance of killer aftermarket parts, and this old Chevelle lucked out when it was plucked from obscurity by Jeremy.

Lastly, kudos to Ron Francis for hosting the build. The company credo is, “We are dedicated to providing a broad spectrum of quality electrical products along with exemplary customer service to make your experience with us a memorable one. We also provide excellent technical assistance to troubleshoot any questions you may have along the way. Our goal is to completely satisfy you before, during and after the sale. ”
