PROFORM: Remove Tight-Fitting LS Main Caps the Easy Way

Tired of wrestling with your junkyard LS build? PROFORM has a new product that should make things a little easier for you.

By now, many of us know how difficult it is to separate LS main bearing caps without damaging them. So, the engineers at PROFORM came up with an ingenious new tool to make that job much easier and less intrusive.

The features and benefits of the new Main Cap Remover are numerous. For example, there’s nothing worse than getting a new tool to solve a difficult problem only to have it warp, bend, or fail. Luckily for us, PROFORM’S LS Main Cap Removal Tool features a 6061 aluminum body with steel Allen-head bolt pivots, so we know the construction is solid.

Another mark of excellent tool design is attention to detail. It’s the little things that differentiate a mediocre auto parts store tool from a purpose-built piece of hardware. PROFORM’s LS Main Cap Removal Tool sports some machined grooves on its handles to prevent any slipping or accidents. When you’re exerting any amount of force in an upward or downward motion as this tool requires, grip matters.

But, don’t just take our word for it, PROFORM’s official press release goes into more detail:

“Specialty Auto Parts U.S.A., Inc., engineers and manufactures innovative performance parts and job-specific, engine building tools for the automotive aftermarket. Our goal is to provide maximum value to performance and race enthusiasts with innovation, quality, and affordability in all of our products. The company has evolved, since its inception, to routinely designing and producing creative products and industry firsts. The same can be said about the LS Main Cap Removal Tool.”

“LS-style block main bearing caps have notoriously tight tolerances making their removal difficult without causing damage to the main cap, and also time-consuming. Enter the PROFORM LS Main Cap Removal Tool. Hook the tool beneath the cap and push down on the handles to ease the cap out with leverage, nearly eliminating the aforementioned issues.”

“Featuring long, easy-grip handles with machine grooved rings for a more secure hold and greater leverage. This premium tool is manufactured with a durable corrosion-resistant, 6061 aluminum body and steel Allen-head bolt pivots that hold up to continued use. This is a premium tool, and since it’s from PROFORM it won’t be at a premium price!”

So, as the saying goes, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat,” (We love cats. It’s just an expression.) Maybe it’s time to retire your old-reliable hammer for something more purpose-built for the job. Take blunt-force out of the equation and use leverage with a simple push-down, pull-up motion to get those main caps free.
