No matter how small or odd a project may seem, never count out the mind of a fabricator to deliver some epic results. That’s what happened in the above video, as gearhead and LS enthusiast Matt Owen showed up to give the haters a smackdown at the TX2K14 event back in March of this year.
If Owen’s name seems a little familiar to you, it might be because of our feature article that we ran on the man and his noble steed a few months ago. Nevertheless, we couldn’t help but revisit the little subcompact that stole our hearts and sped off at 130 miles per hour.
Filmed by the staff from 1320video, the video depicts the IS300 rolling its way into the dyno testing bay. A shot of the license plate reads “Trippin”; likely the reaction that Owen goes for whenever he gets to show off his beloved Lexus.
Up goes the hood, and the perspective shifts to its owner as he touts the specs: 5.3L LC9, Trick Flow heads, dual 6266 turbochargers from Precision Turbo, MoTeC M1 ECU, and mechanical fuel pump squirting 91 octane through Injector Dynamics 1300 fuel injectors. Owen admits to having seen the IS300 reach upwards of 700 horsepower on 11 pounds of boost, and he was looking to get that number even higher at TX2K14 while running on 17 pounds of boost.
Owen’s wish was quickly granted, as he managed to whip the car up to 858 horsepower on its first run, and a peak of 860 horsepower on its second run. Moving onto the shake down pass, he made quick work of the blacktop, scoring a quarter-mile time of 11.41 seconds. All in all, a great day for a regular Joe and his not-so-regular car.
