Behold the Awesome and Absurd Youabian Puma

puma2

The mission statement on the Puma Automobiles website reads: “The Youabian Puma was created with one goal in mind: To standout and be unique.” lsxmag.com Editor Paul Huizenga remarked, “That is like what you get when you drop acid and try to build a Rally Fighter,” and after perusing the website, we tend to agree with him. Our friends over at Jalopnik found this beauty at the LA Auto Show, and we couldn’t let it slip by without reporting on it.

puma1One of the selling points for the huge-by-large vehicle is that it “incorporates the most technologically advanced features offered in the automotive industry, along with a fully automated convertible hardtop.”

Why are you seeing this monstrosity here on LSXMag? Well, because one of those technological advances is the use of the General’s standout LS7 engine, but that’s perhaps where the advanced features stop, at least in our eyes. The automated hardtop was done years ago by Mercedes Benz along with a number of other manufacturers, and the rest of the Puma looks like a remote-control car on steroids.

Once you get past the 505-horse LS7 powerplant, the rest of the drivetrain seems like an exercise in wretched excess, but an necessary exercise when you begin to contemplate what might be required to get this behemoth up to, and down from, speed.

There is a set of 20-inch aluminum wheels with 44-inch-tall, 21-inch wide tires, 6.00:1 rear-gear ratio, and a 163.5-inch wheelbase. That’s only nine inches shorter than a long-wheelbase F-250 Crew Cab Super Duty pickup truck. At six feet tall and 20.1 feet long, the Puma is everything you’ve ever wanted in a vehicle – times ugly to the tenth power.

puma4A set of 16-inch-diameter front and 13-inch diameter rear brakes are required to stop the monster, and thanks to the aluminum/steel chassis construction and aluminum/fiberglass body, you’ll get an approximate 14 MPG city and 22 MPG on the highway, making the 18 gallon dual fuel tanks a necessity.

The roof and windshield are adapted from a Volvo C30, and from checking out the comment area over at Jalopnik, their eagle-eyed readers have spotted a number of other parts that appear to be sourced from the Volvo parts bins.

Youabian claims 0-60 in 5.9 seconds, a telling figure when you factor in the horsepower-to-weight ratio. It’ll get out of its own way quickly, but likely drive over a number of other cars in the process. The interior sports a plethora of modern options like Sirius XM radio, navigation system, Bluetooth, and a host of other features designed to take your attention away from driving when you should be focused on it, lest you run over large children and small animals in the process of making your way down the road.

Pony up a non-refundable deposit of $250 for a background/credit check before you can even think of test driving it, and that’s only if the company deems you creditworthy of purchasing one. There is no price listed, and we’re left to wonder what that might be.

The heart of a lion, body and interior parts adapted from a lamb, and enough spelling mistakes on the website to make you reconsider – that is, if owning one of these was even in your viewfinder.

There are plenty more features on this machine, but we’ll direct you to the website should you be interested in making one yours. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
