Earlier today, Epic Games, The Mill, and Chevrolet released their collaboration short-film, The Human Race. The result is a stunning combination of Epic Films’ Unreal Engine, the Mill’s virtual production, Mill Cyclops™, and the Mill BLACKBIRD– which was turned into the beloved 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Because of these companies, for the first time, the car was composited into the footage in real-time augmented reality. The Mill BLACKBIRD is the rig you see in the video, which was created solely for the purpose of inserting a car model onto and placing that specific vehicle into the film in real-time– which, in this case, just happens to be the Camaro. These new technological innovations will forever change the future of filmmaking.

The resulting clip is spectacular– showing a futuristic race between a Camaro ZL1 and an artificial intelligence-driven Chevrolet FNR concept car.

The future is now with the somewhat recent releases of multiple autonomous cars and vehicles with self-driving capabilities. Sure, they are frowned upon by most performance driving enthusiasts, but you have to think about how many decades have passed by, just waiting for this sort of technology to come to light. Change and innovation is not only inevitable, it is something Chevrolet constantly strives for.
