Last week in the Los Angeles community of North Hills, a gas station surveillance camera caught dramatic video of a 5th generation Camaro careening through a curbside bus stop on North Sepulveda Boulevard, fatally injuring one pedestrian, injuring another, and nearly hitting a third.
In the video, the man can be seen barely dodging the oncoming Camaro, which then strikes a woman seated on the bus bench before moving off-frame. While the woman survived the impact, albeit with a broken leg according to witnesses, the final individual struck by the car was not so fortunate and died at the scene.
KTLA reports that the incident apparently stemmed from a chain reaction collision, when a car pulled out from a parking lot into the path of the Camaro which struck a glancing blow before impacting a second car, then hopping the curb and slamming into the bus stop. Per the man who managed to leap clear of the car’s path (who did not wish to be identified), “It barely missed me. It’s crazy. I could have been gone in an instant.”
Police are investigating the incident, but initially said that racing was not believed to be a factor. The driver of the Camaro was transported to a local hospital, and there is no word on whether he or she will be charged with any violations.
