With ATI Performance being in business for more than 50 years, we think it’s safe to say they’ve been around the block a couple of times. The company is best known for producing high-performance automatic transmissions for drag racing applications, which they still do today.
We spoke with JC Beatie, Jr. of ATI Performance during this year’s SEMA Show who showed us the company’s new products that debuted at the show this year, including applications for both domestic and imported vehicles. He explained, “First up is our Nissan GT-R components. We’ve designed a custom torque converter and adapter kit to adapt a GM automatic transmission to the GT-R’s 3.6-liter twin turbo V6 engine for drag racing applications. The kit utilizes the factory ignition trigger and sensor, and wiring, which makes the swap very easy. We also have a crankshaft adapter, flex plate, and adapter plate so enthusiasts can reuse the factory Nissan ignition. The package is available for a lockup or non-lockup style transmission.”
With over 700 horsepower on tap, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat is already king of the horsepower wars. However, horsepower is a strange mistress and often seduces us all into wanting more. So, for Hellcat owners ATI is offering up a new 10-percent overdrive crank pulley. “We’ve tested and tuned this component, and we’ve seen gains of about 80 rear-wheel horsepower with a tune, which equates to about three pounds of boost. The package will include ARP hardware.” The horsepower gains are incredible, and the SFI approved pulley will make the Hellcat even hotter, what’s even better is, that unless someone knows specifically what they’re looking for, this is a stealthy install that’s easy enough to pull off for significant power gains.
For LS-powered racers running a Jesel or other belt-drive on an LS engine, ATI has developed a new timing bracket. The bracket is designed specifically to clear late-model LS engine water pumps, and allows enthusiasts to retain the factory camshaft sensor and wiring. Beatie says this system works with most cast LS water pumps and even some popular aftermarket electric pumps like those from Meziere.
ATI was also showing off its E-Quick Reverse Manual Billet Aluminum Valve Body for a TH400 automatic transmission. Beatie tells us, “This component is fully electric. Enthusiasts can use calibrations from AEM and Holley to control this unit, giving the user full-electronic control over first, second, and third gear shifting.” The forward pattern valve body ensures that racers won’t have to cycle back through second and first gears if they want to go to neutral after a pass at the drag strip.
