NCA Annual All-Corvette Show Benefits Local Charities

DSCN0347Attracting nearly 5,000 visitors and more than 250 Corvette owners, the Nebraska Corvette Association hosts the largest Corvette show in the mid-West every September in Lincoln, Nebraska.

DSC_0069Founded in May of 1967, the Nebraska Corvette Association has grown to more than 200 members.

As their press release stated, “A gathering of Corvette owners and admirers doesn’t conjure up thoughts of feeding the hungry and helping kids in crisis,” but that is indeed the driving force behind the NCA’s Annual All-Corvette Show.

Bill Zuspan, Show Chairman since 2012 and retired History teacher said, “Corvette owners come from eight states and 60 cities, and for the last four years, representatives from the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky have joined us, bringing merchandise to sell, and telling us this is one of their top shows.”

“The array of Corvettes present ranged from 25 C1s to almost 40 C7s,” said Zuspan.

DSC_0066Car clubs from Kansas City, Omaha, Grand Island, and Kearney bring their Corvettes to Lincoln.

The club hosts events like the Geezer Getaway and trash pick-up twice a year. They also take part in many of the region’s car shows such as Bloomington Gold, Vettes on the Rockies, Black Hills Classic, Corvettes at Carlisle, and Eureka Springs.

The funds raised support charities such as the Lincoln Food Bank and the Child Advocacy Center. Also, since 2004 the Nebraska Corvette Association has awarded close to $20,000 in scholarships for students enrolled in the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program at the Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska.

Funds are raised through sponsorships and car show entry fees, as well as silent auction bidding and raffle ticket sales.

As it states on their website, “The Corvette Wave is an integral part of the mystique and culture of the Corvette owner experience. Corvette owners who wave at fellow Corvette owners when they pass on the road, show a mark of recognition that you are among the elite group of intelligent people who are driving America’s True Sports Car.”

“As a member of the elite Corvette group, you should be recognized for your poise and intelligence. Ever since Corvette No. 00001 first met Corvette No. 00002 on the road, their drivers saluted each other with waves.” Today, unfortunately, this grand and glorious tradition is wavering, so the NCA promotes keeping it alive.

For those not familiar with this tradition, all you have to do is wave at your fellow Corvette drivers when you pass on the road. Dan Woomer from the Lost Caravan Corvette Club explains the rules:

  1. There is no excuse for not waving at your fellow Corvette owner. Not waving is a breach of proper Corvette etiquette.
  2. Whoever sees the other Corvette first, starts the wave.
  3. Rules 1 and 2 apply to both male and female drivers.
  4. Any wave is acceptable.
  5. A late wave is better than no wave at all.

“The overall concept is simple, wave at your fellow Corvette owners, whoever they are, whenever you see them. This will show you understand the full measure and etiquette that comes with being the proud owner of America’s favorite sports car,” said Woomer.

The NCA is also an active member of the National Corvette Museum, National Council of Corvette Clubs, Eastern Nebraska Western Iowa Car Council, and they support and participate in the Sandhills Open Road Challenge.

There is no doubt the NCA’s Annual All-Corvette Show is becoming one of the country’s most notorious Corvette shows, and Corvette Online will be there next September to offer our readers the full coverage of this event.

Symbolic of the Corvette spirit and community, the NCA’s motto is “Feed the hungry, help the kids, showcase the ‘Vette,” Having fun while doing some good along the way!Screen Shot 2015-11-23 at 9.14.44 AM
