The 1970’s emissions standards may have almost killed performance, but the 1980’s saw the rebirth of sports cars. Major automakers finally figured out how to make horsepower without choking us all on exhaust fumes. While America had its own racing heroes, Holden’s Peter Brock from Australia was an eccentric character who tragically died during a race back in 2006.
To celebrate Brock’s life and racing career, Holden is releasing a limited edition HDT VE Commodore VL/VE Group A Plus Pack. Try saying that five times fast. Carscoop brings us the details on this special edition package.
During the 1980’s, Brock raced for the Holden Dealer Team, or HDT, in a Commodore VE SS. While it was adorned with gaudy body modifications, this was a serious race car…though some of Brock’s “modifications” were less than… traditional. Specifically, Brock believed that a box loaded with crystals and magnets could “align” the molecules in his fuel and engine, thus making his car perform better.
Well, it didn’t, and Holden cut ties with Brock over this weird new age obsession, but they’ve apparently had a change of heart as this throwback Holden comes with an Energy Polariser. It also has the a ridiculous hood scoop, a 6.2 liter V8 (with optional supercharger package), attention-grabbing body modifications, and 20-inch wheels. It certainly harkens back to a different time in the automotive world, and just 250 examples are planned to be produced. So get them while they’re hot, and may the Force be with you…
