About two years ago we brought you word that Chevrolet and Manchester United had come to a sponsorship deal that included free cars for the team and staff. That’s a pretty sweet deal right? Sadly, today we must report that according to Motorward, the football (read: soccer) team are not driving their free cars.
As a part of the sponsorship, it appears that Chevrolet gave all the players and the staff a choice of Chevrolet cars but the ManU players are still being seen driving their own cars to and from training. This isn’t a huge surprise as Chevrolet’s “voluntary drive program” means the players do not have to use the cars, but we can’t be the only ones that find this a bit ridiculous. Obligated or not, manners and loyalty to a major sponsor would dictate that you would use them occasionally right?
Not to mention that these weren’t even run of the mill Cruzes either. While some players chose Volts and SUVs, many chose for the iconic Corvette and Camaros. Now these vehicles, according to the report, are being used occasionally by the training ground staff. For the most part, these Camaros and Corvettes are spending the majority of their time in garages.
Lets face it, most red blooded Americans would kill to have a brand new Corvette or Camaro. We’re sure they are in good hands but if the reports are true, then its just plain sad to see these vehicles not being appreciated for what they are.
