PRI 2014: World Products’ Complete Engine Kits; Erson Custom Cams

IMG_4651 - CopyThe guys at World Products and Erson Cams, divisions of PBM Performance, have a good handle on what it takes to put together a successful engine program.

According to World’s Jack McInnis, “An engine builder can buy a carb-to-pan package from us, instead of having their time tied up in sourcing products from half a dozen different vendors, it’s one-stop-shopping. For example, one engine is based around a Motown II LS block, They can place one order, get one invoice, and all the parts are delivered to their door. It’s customizable as well – we have a 427 street/strip small-block package, and there’s also a 427 drag race package.”

In addition to the packages built around the Motown II LS, they also have other engine packages based around each of their engine blocks – the big-block Chevy Merlin III with a 540, a 555, and 632 cube variant, a 427 small-block Chevy Motown II, and even the small-block Ford Man O’War in a 454 cube displacement, with other combinations on the drawing board.

Each one can be modified according to the buyer’s taste; solid roller camshafts, different cylinder heads, and different compression ratios are all available and priced accordingly.

mg4_0336_1024 copyOn the Erson Cams side of the company, PBM founder Dick Boyer had this to say, “The first step to to a custom cam is having a guy on the phone that has enough knowledge of engine combinations to pick the camshaft, or help the customer pick the camshaft, that’s going to work best for them. These guys have been with us 20-plus years, they know the product and what works and what doesn’t work.”

The company boasts a next-day shipping time on custom camshafts; once it’s ordered, it’ll be on its way out the door the following day, no ifs, ands, or buts. Not only that, but the camshaft will ship with a computerized information sheet right from the CamPro measuring machine to ensure that the camshaft meets the dimensions that were ordered.
