The Versatile TREMEC TKO 5-Speed Transmission-Not Just For Mustang

Getting the power to the rear wheels is the task of the transmission, but selecting the right model for your project can be a daunting task. Performance enthusiasts favor the manual transmission because of the minimal loss of power when compared to older automatics.

TREMEC is well known with the fans of the 5.0 Mustang, but the TKO 5-Speed transmission is not limited to 5.0 Mustang owners. Many performance minded individuals opted to swap the 5.0 engine into early Ford, but the stock manual transmission was always the weak link.

TREMEC stepped in to support the 5.0 engine fanatics with their line of performance transmissions, such as the TKO series. The TKO manual transmission is very adaptable and can be found in a variety of rear wheel drive vehicles thanks to variety of features. The engineers at TREMEC designed the TKO line of transmissions with the hot rod enthusiast in mind thank to the many options for shifter locations and mounting configurations. This opened up the TKO series of transmissions to restomod guys and gals, hot rodders, and even sportsman racers.

Thanks upgraded internals, the TKO transmissions can handle up 600 lb/ft of torque that would send the standard T5 transmission to junkyard. These transmissions have a unique blend of street and strip capabilities that can handle the power of your hot rod and save a little fuel thanks to fifth gear.

Not everyone can trailer their hot rod to a car and there are many who believe in actually driving their cars, but the freeway can be troublesome without overdrive. The TKO opens up the fastlane to vintage vehicles thus allowing us to spend more time behind the wheel of our beloved machines.
