Believe it or not, the students at the School of Automotive Machinists (SAM) in Houston, Texas actually spend their days studying art, architecture, and music – the art of speed, the architecture of race engines, and how to fine tune them into a symphony of explosive power.

As you will remember from a few months ago, we caught up with the guys from SAM at the LSX Shootout in Indianapolis, where they were on their way to dominating the All-Motor class of the event. But they didn’t stop there. In this video from High Tech Corvette, the students from SAM take their all-motor 4th Gen Camaro down the quarter mile in what is believed to be the fastest time ever recorded for an all-motor, naturally aspirated LSX-powered Camaro. The SAM Camaro’s 433 cubic inch LSX pushes the 3130 pound car to a stellar 8.12 at 170 miles per hour. Making the run all the more impressive, the SAM 4th Gen still utilizes a stock-style suspension to harness all that brutal power from their N/A LSX, and it’s a 5-speed!

We are extremely impressed, but yet somehow not too surprised that the SAM students should be the ones to hit this mark, because when a bunch of folks who spend that much time studying how to make the baddest race engines on the planet even better get together to work on one single car, the results should be nothing short of epic.
