JD Thompson’s Boosted LSX Duo

We get emails from readers from the world over, inquiring about how to get their cars featured on LSXMag. We’ve covered cars from Australia, Japan, Poland, and everywhere in between – many of which are LS-swaps into cars that you wouldn’t expect them to be in. But hearing from someone in the Midwest with what appears to be a couple of stock, late-model GM cars can throw us off. But that’s exactly what JD Thompson did with his email to us.

What you’re looking at on this page is not a couple of stock vehicles, but in fact, a pair of daily driven sleepers packed with just about every available bolt-on, including superchargers. Cincy Speed has built both of these cars into what you see here.

2010 Camaro 2SS/RS LS3, aka, “Cybil”

Starting with the 2010 Camaro RS/SS that was bought brand new, Thompson had Cincy Speed bolt a Whipple supercharger to the top of the LS3 for more punch, then rounded out the engine mods with a Roto-Fab cold-air intake, a COMP camshaft, Patriot Performance valvesprings and pushrods, and Stainless Works headers, backed by a Borla S catback exhaust.

The drivetrain has been fortified by other components like a Hurst line-lock, a Pfadt suspension, a McLeod clutch, a Torq dual-fan heat exchanger, DSS 1,400 HP-capable rear axles, and some cosmetic touches, like a Heritage grille and AAC LED sidemarker lights round out the modifications.

2009 G8 GT L76, aka, “Medusa”

The 4-door Pontiac has the same flair as the Camaro, just in a family car package. Like the Chevy coupe, it benefits from a set of Stainless Works long-tube headers, a twin hat fuel pump, a COMP camshaft upgrade, and a supercharger, although in this case it’s a D1SC ProCharger. Unlike the Camaro however, under the hood there is a BES Racing Engines forged and blueprinted L76 – built strong enough to handle the ProCharger’s 14 PSI of boost. A set of Dynomax mufflers are also added to the mix. The Poncho was tuned by Cincy Speed.

The result of these mods resulted in a total of 714 RWHP on the shop’s in-house Dynojet – not too shabby considering this is his wife’s car. However, this car wasn’t bought new, but rather, from a former customer of the Ohio tuning shop. Thompson explains, “When I began having my Camaro worked on, I saw the G8 in the shop.  Little did I know that 18-24 months later we would own it.  The previous owner of the G8 had started his mods very close to the same time I started on my Camaro.  This provided me the opportunity to follow the progress of the G8 at the same time my car was being done.  My wife and I were at Cincy Speed last March and saw the G8 sitting in the back.  When I asked about it, like I always had, the shop owner told us it was for sale.  My wife fell in love with the car and fortunately things fell into place that permitted us to be able to purchase the car.  We’ve now owned it for one year and its a fun filled ride every time you take it out.  This car has humbled many who roll up thinking they’re going to smoke a 4-door mom car!”

With a pair of docile-looking LS-powered vehicles like these, we wouldn’t doubt that Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have their fair share of fun embarrassing the competition in the Midwest.
